To quote my least favorite live streamer: hey chat!
As some of you might know, I’m just a chill guy.
(If you haven’t seen this meme yet, don’t worry, it’ll hit your newsfeed soon enough.)
Because I’m such a chill guy, I’ll admit I haven’t been consistent at all over the past year and a half with this newsletter. It started off extremely exciting for it and it was picking up traction really fast, but it slowed down once I didn’t put in the time anymore.
Right now, Lateral Thinking is at about 3,600 subscribers. My ambition is to make it interesting enough to hit 10,000 subscribers by December 2025.
I hope you’ll all be along for the ride.
In order to achieve that goal, it’s time for a real shift in Lateral Thinking and some motivation for me to go back to my initial daily routine of writing this newsletter.
In order to do that, Lateral Thinking needs to evolve and become something else.
First of all, it needs to move to a new home. That new home is Beehiiv. I’ve been exploring moving it there for a while, but finally pulled the trigger on it.
You can find the current Lateral Thinking archive either by visiting LateralThink.in or going directly here.
As of right now, I’ve transitioned all subscribers to the new platform and you’ll be receiving a follow up email from me tomorrow.
Moving forward, you’ll be receiving this newsletter from me from the new Beehiiv setup.
Kind request: I’ll also be doing a subscriber cleanup over the new few weeks, so if you want to keep receiving the Lateral Thinking newsletter, please make sure to open this email and future ones - I’ll be removing people who haven’t opened any emails for the past few months.
For those of you who are paid subscribers (thank you!), you don’t need to do anything. You’ll just be transferred to the paid version on Beehiiv.
Now, what’ll happen with Lateral Thinking in its new home, you ask? Glad you asked.
The new format will look something like this:
3-4 weekly “shorts” like the ones you’ve gotten used to (but with a twist - some of them will be co-hosted & co-written by people I’m a huge fan of)
1-2 long form articles every month
More content about business, start-ups, marketing and how lateral thinking can be applied in these fields (so expect to hear more about some of the lateral stuff we did at Blindspot)
That’s pretty much it. It wouldn’t be lateral thinking if we didn’t celebrate the move with one of my favorite brain teasers, so here we go:
A woman staying in a hotel hears a knock on her door. She opens it to find a man she doesn’t know. The man apologizes and says he thought it was his room, then goes down the hall and gets into the elevator.
The woman quickly phones security. What made her so suspicious?
Keep scrolling for the answer.
Answer: You don’t knock on your own door.
PS: this exercise initially appeared in a Lateral Thinking post from 2022
